As we are set to head back to Grey Cliffs Ranch in Montana this fall, we want to give you guys an insider look as to why this is one of the top new Yoga retreat destinations and some reasons why we love it!
Montana is known for many things, but being known for its abundance of gold and silver, it is often called the Treasure state. We think one of the best treasures of this state is all of the beauty Montana has to offer and this is what makes it the perfect place to escape to for a Yoga retreat. Montana is such a raw place, full of natural wonders that will make you drop your jaw in amazement of Mother Earth’s beauty.
Our sweet friend, Om On’s very own Becky (Tara) Eschenroeder, will be leading the magical experience when we revisit Grey Cliffs Ranch this fall, and we think her words describe it perfectly. We caught up with Becky to chat a bit about her favorite things in Montana, and she was kind enough to share some of the beautiful thoughts Montana has inspired in her.
They are calling again… I can hear their steady song in my heart and I can feel their power and pulse in my veins. The rivers that flow through them are my blood… The closer I get, the more peace I feel above, below, within and without… They are calling again… I can taste the air that whispers through the branches and the leaves of the sage and the aspens; rooting me into EVERY moment of Now. The smell of life penetrates with depth as I inhale “Yes!” to this sweet existence… Exhale. They are calling again… And I must go.
If this got your blood pumping and mind wandering to a tranquil place, you will be in awe of everything Montana has to offer, so let’s check out where to go and what to do while you’re there.
Where to go/What to do:
What better place to start than Glacier National Park?
Glacier Highland: Cute cafe and market just outside of the park’s West Glacier entrance. You’ll find a wide selection of soups, salads, and traditional American fare. We’ve also heard their desserts are to die for.
Russell’s Fireside Dining Room at Lake McDonald Lodge: Enjoy hearty post trail food with an amazing view of the lake.
Glacier Under Canvas: Glamping at its finest! Each safari tent has a wood stove, luxurious bedding, and the cutest en suite bathroom. We also loved the morning hot chocolate in the community tent.
Lake McDonald Lodge: Located on stunning Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park, this historic Swiss chalet style lodge has a variety of lodging options and one of the best views in the park.
Scenic Drive: You can’t miss Going-to-the-Sun Road from Lake McDonald to cross the Continental Divide. Not for the faint of heart, but worth every jaw dropping switch back.
Hiking: So many trails to choose from. Chat with the park rangers to get their recommendations on where to head (and a bear update)!
Just down the road from Glacier is the adorable town of Whitefish!
Buffalo Café: Refuel after your morning hike with tasty all-American fare. Try the huevos rancheros and huckleberry pie!
Stumptown Marketplace: This downtown market features select restaurant and store pop ups with a focus on made-in-Montana products and food. We love the Pig and Olive Sandwich Shoppe for a quick bite.
Lodge at Whitefish Lake: Traditional and cozy lodge right on the stunning Whitefish Lake, just minutes from downtown Whitefish. We loved the Western themed rooms and the grand lobby with a toasty stone fireplace – perfect for those cold Montana nights.
Averill’s Flathead Lake Lodge: Thirty minutes outside of downtown Whitefish, but worth every minute of the drive. This all-inclusive dude ranch is set amidst 2000+ acres of untouched land, with beautiful Flathead Lake as a backdrop. You’ve never seen a night sky like this.
Whitefish Lake: Right outside of Whitefish, this beautiful lake is the perfect place for all of your water adventures, whether you prefer SUP, kayaking, or boating.
Flathead Lake: Some of the most pristine lake waters that we have seen. Stay for a while, but be forewarned…the stillness and solitude may make you extend your trip!
On the other side of the state from Glacier and Whitefish, you’ll find stunning Bozeman, the gem of southwest Montana. Bozeman is in the neighborhood of Grey Cliffs Ranch, our yoga retreat hideaway. If you’ll be joining us for the retreat, or if you’re interested in a future retreat to Grey Cliffs, you should consider coming early or staying late to fall in love with Bozeman.
14 North: Open late! Treat yourself to upscale comfort food at this gastropub in the heart of downtown.
Clark’s Fork: Classic diner food with a fresh, healthy twist. Fuel up for a day of exploring with one of their breakfast wraps.
Grey Cliffs Ranch: We can’t get enough of this private ranch, set on 6400 acres of rolling land in southern Montana. With a private chef, luxurious accommodations, and the Madison River just minutes away, what’s not to love?
Gallatin River Lodge: Right near the Bozeman airport, this gorgeous lodge offers incredible views of the Gallatin River and the Rockies.
Yellowstone National Park: If you’re in southern Montana, you can’t miss it! Since it sits right in between the park’s east and west entrances, most Yellowstone visitors make Bozeman their home base. Spend your day at the park, then head back into town for dinner, drinks, and relaxing.
Skiing: If you’re a winter sports aficionado, Bozeman’s got you covered. Hit the slopes or one of their many cross country trails. You could even give snowmobiling a try!
Where to find us: Grey Cliffs Ranch
Located in stunning southwest Montana, Grey Cliffs Ranch is just outside of the lively college town of Bozeman. It’s proximity to town, being only 45 minutes, allows guests the convenience to a major airport (if you count a few gates as that), and take time to explore the historic main street district which is home to a variety of locally owned cafes, shops, outfitters, and galleries.
The ranch’s focal feature though is the awe-inspiring mountains that surround it on all sides. These mountain ranges offer the most incredible backdrop to the Gallatin Valley’s rolling pastoral hills and crystal clear rivers. Not to mention adventure enthusiasts will be right at home with a myriad of options to explore nearby. Near to the ranch is the location where the movie classic, A River Runs Through It was filmed, and this truly gives one the feel for the beauty of the area. The rivers attract fly fishing professionals and lovers from all over the country, and Grey Cliffs Ranch offers the opportunity to partake in a few hours to a few days expedition.
And if that’s not enough, perhaps the pinnacle of your stay will be a daytrip into Yellowstone National Park. The park is home to an incredibly diverse amount of wildlife, and it offers some of our country’s most stunning landscape and natural phenomena. While on retreat you will experience the park first hand, or one might say first hoof, as we ride into the park on horseback for a full day trip.
The vibe here in southwest Montana is both rustic and relaxing, and that is what makes Montana the ultimate destination for a Yoga retreat.
While this is only some of the incredible things to do in the state with so much beauty and serenity, we hope you will join us for our next trip, September 11-15th, so we can explore together! You truly don’t want to misseverythingthis incredible place has to offer.
