This week we sat down with Om On’s Instructor, Izzy Shurte to jam on all things yoga and life. As a mother, wife, and a Lead Instructor in our 200 Hour Teacher Training Program, Izzy is one incredible gal. Find out more below about what keeps her going on and off the mat.
Life’s too short to…
be guided by fear
The last time I laughed so hard I couldn’t stop was…
when I watched Ali Wong’s Baby Cobr
I’ve never learned…
how to fold a fitted sheet
Black tea and a coconut flour muffin followed by meditation and asana get me going in the morning.
I started practicing yoga when…
I was in college, (I took it for a gym credit)
The person I call my Guru/Mentor/Role Model is:
my daughter Mariel and my husband Nathan are my teachers these days
Dark chocolate is my guilty obsession.
My proudest accomplishment is…
having the guts to go to grad school and change careers at 33 years old
My favorite tunes for on + off the mat are… wide variety…everything from Roots Reggae, to electronic music like Bonobo, Tycho, Sylvan Esso to Grateful Dead to Mavis Staples…70s punk like The Stooges. I’m all over the place.
I am consistently inspired by…
root yogic texts
I am grateful that I am a yoga instructor because… I sincerely love to connect with others as a teacher and share what I believe is a healing art / science. And because teaching keeps me faithful to my practice.
No matter what comes up, I always make time for… meditation….even if it’s just 10 minutes, I make it happen.
Izzy’s sweet lil’ meditation nook
All you need isnow.
I crave simplicity when it comes to… most things. I cannot stand clutter.
My top spot to escape is… my meditation nook. It’s a dormer window seat that is secluded behind a curtain
