Spring cleaning is not only essential for your home and closet, but it is vital during seasonal transitions for your mind and body. It is important to declutter and cleanse your Yoga practice and Wellness routineeach spring as well as the space around you. Try refreshing and energizing your flow with some detoxifying Yoga poses or incorporatingAyurvedic foods and rituals into your wellness routine to awaken your mind and body.
To Spring Clean Your Yoga Practice
Try incorporating one or all of these poses into your regular practice or preferred sequence this spring to cleanse your practice.
Dolphin Pose (Ardha Pincha Mayurasana)
This pose strengthens the core, arms and legs while opening up the shoulders and the ribcage. This pose is excellent for draining the mucus from the lungs created by excess kapha dosha. Don’t worry if you are not a master of the pose right away. Even just slowly working your body into the pose and training yourself to one day master the inversion helps to cleanse your practice, body and mind.
Side Plank (Vasisthasana)
Side Plank ignites your practice but creating a fire in your arms and core. During the transition from cold winter months to rainy, warm spring months it is important to ignite a fire in your core to boost your metabolism. During kapha dosha you may notice puffiness and excess water retention, therefore, adding Side Plank to your practice helps to spark a flame that may have been extinguished during the winter.
Half Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana)
Half Moon Pose involves lengthening, stretching and balance. This pose is great for strengthening your mind and body by challenging your balance and stretching your buttock, abdomen, thighs and ankles. If you are looking to really detoxify your practice this spring try adding a twist to stretch and lengthen the spine, calm the nervous system, and help detoxify the body. Twists help to detox the body by stimulating digestion and to wring out toxins (ama) from winter, the perfect addition to a spring clean of your Yoga practice.
