C Lazy’s Guide for Preparing for A Retreat on the Ranch

As we prepare to head back to the ranch, we hope you are just as excited for this getaway as we are.

This relaxing and unforgettable Yoga retreat is the perfect way to experience the magic of Colorado while recharging your mind and body.

If you are escaping with us to the mountains, here is how to prepare for a retreat at C Lazy U Dude Ranch- nestled near the wildflowers, in the mountains and under the stars.

While this is a Yoga retreat, and you can expect lots of it, it is also important to remember you are here to find peace. This is your time to focus on allowing connection with your body and the release of any unwanted stress or tension.

All of the practices offered are designed for all levels. To both deepen and ground yourself, while staying rooted in your flow, there will be modifications and enhancements provided to help you connect and fully immerse yourself in all that this retreat has to offer.

While the foundation of Yoga and overall fitness will be advantageous during your time on the ranch, this is your retreat. So if you feel it necessary to practice Yoga daily, that is fantastic, and we encourage you do to so. But, if you feel the need for rest, listen to your body as well, and rest. In order to get the most out of this health and wellness retreat, listen to what both your body and mind are telling you and do what is needed.

As most of our time off of the mat will include activities such as horseback riding, hiking and other outdoor activities, we will offer practices that target specific muscle groups post activity, but take this all at your own pace. Again, this is your retreat. While we are able to customize each class based on the needs of the group, feel free to suggest poses in which you feel your body will benefit from. We want you to get the most out of this incredible experience with us, so we are always open to exploring each persons wishlist.

Now, it’s time to pack your bags. Here is what to pack on a wellness retreat:

  • Athletic clothing for yoga practice and hiking – think loose & comfortable
  • Yoga Mat
  • Toiletries
  • Camera
  • Journal
  • Walking/running/hiking shoes
  • Sandals
  • Bathing suit
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses (especially when riding)
  • Sun Hat
  • Small Daypack
  • Insect repellant
  • Alarm clock or phone with alarm capabilities
  • A good book
  • Ranch cocktail attire for dinners in the main lodge (Think pressed jeans + western button downs for the cowboys & western chic skirts + jeans for the cowgirls)
  • Warm layers of performance wicking material are ideal.  (We recommend Icebreaker or Smartwool)
  • Wool socks
  • A cozy jacket and sweater for the cooler evenings
  • Scarf, warm gloves and warm hat
  • Rain jacket and possible rain gear weather dependant  (Ponchos are not permissible)
  • Horse back riding appropriate attire:  jeans or horseback riding gear
  • Weather proof boots/ boots with a heel for riding;  ideal to be pull-on type
  • Chaps, riding gloves, optional, and helmets will be provided
  • Cowboy boots + hat  (please ensure your hat has a stampede string, so it stays put

What to expect weather wise: 

The weather tends to shift quickly being in the mountains of Colorado, and with it being October, the days will begin to chill as they go on into the fall season.

You can expect to see daily max temperatures in the 60’s with the weather cooling to the mid to high 30’s in the evenings.

With the elevation at the ranch being approximately 8,200 feet, the sun can be strong during the day and the nights can get rather chilly because there is less protection at the higher altitude.

When packing for this retreat in Colorado, with weather in mind, think about breathable, but also warm, performance fibers and layers to cover all of the bases.
