Keshavacharya and Kamaniya Das, self-proclaimed “kirtan gypsies” under the name Prema Hara, joined us at Om On Yoga last Wednesday night. We were thrilled to welcome this internationally-known group during their first ever visit to Richmond, VA.

Keshavacharya setting up before the class and concert

As we set up our mats for class, Keshavacharya softly created sounds from his beautifully decorated drum. Kamaniya entered the room in a beautiful sari (Indian dress) and sat with her harmonium.

She complimented our instructors, Becky Eschenroeder and Kelly Kostecki, by explaining that their positive energy was absolutely infectious. Becky and Kelly inspired the class through a fun and flow-filled sequence as Prema Hara’s voices filled the room. The vibrations from the harmonium and drum resonated with our breath and movement. The class concluded, and Prema Hara invited us to join them in beautiful call-and-response style tunes. Visit our YouTube Channel for a snippet of this wonderful experience!

Prema Hara’s “Find the Beloved” tour is dedicated to their close friend, Shyamdas, who unfortunately passed away recently. In Shyamdas’s memory, a portion of tour proceeds will benefit Food for Life Vrindavan. The organization provides food distribution and educational services as well as programs focused on empowerment of women.

We are delighted to have played a part in this wonderful cause by hosting these talented musicians. Thank you, Prema Hara, for joining us!
