1. Yoga Instructor Lany Portrait_MG_1380Handstands followed by an herbe matte latte is ideal to get me going in the morning! On the days I have more time, the Ashtanga primary series or a neighborhood run.
  2. I started practicing yoga in Los Angeles in 1996 at Yoga Works. I lived in Santa Monica and a friend dragged me in promising me ripped arms…it made a lasting impression. I found Ashtanga in 2004 when my friend, Alicia Golden, asked me to attend Jennifer Elliott’s, Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville, Led Primary Series at Yoga Source. The opening Mantra had me close to tears. I was hooked by the end of the class.
  3.  Dark chocolate almond spread with raspberry jam is my riff on a pb&j. Yum!
  4. No matter what comes up I always make time for a centering practice. Life is demanding especially as a working single mom. I honor that time because it is the only way I can truly be a benefit to myself and others.
  5. Spontaneous expressions of affection and hearing my children giggle make me incredibly happy.
  6.  When I grow up, which is an ever evolving process, I hope to be content with where I am in life. As each stage presents itself. Bravery and discernment are required for this. Yoga is very helpful with transitions.
  7. I always make the bed!
  8.  The last time I laughed so hard I could not stop was reading Calvin and Hobbes with my 9 year old son, Balthazar.
  9. Whoopie Pies! Are my favorite cheap thrill!
  10.  The person I call my Guru is not a person…It’s Life. Do your practice. Life will teach you the rest. Stay focused and learn from a teacher but it comes down to how you live and approach your life.
  11. Life is perfect when I am able to feel how precious it is, how temporary.
  12. My life motto/mantra is Pay Attention. It is easy to get caught up in the past or what needs to be done and become unaware of the beauty and love right in front of you.
  13.  I keep coming back to the mat because it keeps me in touch with the sacredness of the moment. This translates into being a better parent and friend.
  14. One thing you would not have guessed about me is I am a huge fan of Justin Timberlake!
  15. My favorite tunes for on and off the mat right now are Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, Capital Cities among others! I have so many it would take awhile!
  16. You can find me on Belle Isle running the trails with a good friend when I need to mellow and unwind.
  17. #1 Place I’d like to visit: This week it is New Orleans! Food and music are two of my favorite things. Also, there is an island in Greece named Mytelene. It is where my father’s family is from and I have always wanted to travel there
  18. My proudest accomplishment is giving birth to my 3 children, Kyria, Balthazar and Evangelia.
  19. I am grateful that I am a yoga instructor because it is a way of giving back what I have been given.
  20. I luv Om On because there is love and integrity at its center. Kelly and Ken have both a motivating and grounding force. As a practitioner and instructor there I am consistently inspired by their balance and approach to yoga and life.
